APCG 493 Work Progress Week 6 February 2/28/14

This week I worked on sculpting my character. I separated each piece of my model before I sent it into Mudbox so it doesn't cause problems.

I first started sculpting the lower part of my character starting with the abdomen and the legs. I used various reference images of the human muscle anatomy to sculpt in the abdominal muscles and ribs. I also used reference of the human leg muscles to sculpt the legs and calves of my character.

The same thing is also done for the arm and the hand. The hand became difficult to sculpt as I had to shrink the sculpt tool and lower the strength of it to not create a heavy crease line. But I managed to get in the form and shapes that I wanted on the hand.

I also sculpted the bundled up hair ball. For the main hair, I'm still deciding which hair style and direction to sculpt it in and so I haven't started sculpting it yet.

For the ear, I just sculpted in a very simple one. Since it will be small when rendered with the rest of the body, there was no need to detail it that much. The normal map and smoothing of the geometry will help it form better when rendered later on.

I haven't sculpted the face yet because there are still so changes and fixes that I need to fix. In addition I'll also need to manipulate some vertexes and geometry on the chest and back too before sculpting it. So next week I'll be making some minor changes to my character and start texturing and making textures for my character.

APCG 493 Work Progress Week 5 February 2/21/14

I continued fixing the face and lip of my character. Frank Pereria advised me to fix the curvature edge loops around the eyes and mouth. I fixed as much as I could while trying to keep the form that I wanted. I also got some advice from Frank Pereria on fixing my character's lips a bit and it helped me refine the lips of my character a bit better than my previous model.

I deleted some edge loops from the abdomen of my character to reduce my poly counts. In addition I added in a new edge loop to the upper abdomen of my character so the mesh doesn't look stretched when textured. I've also modeled in the metal leather bracer which I forgot to include earlier.

Frank Pereria also gave me some tips to add in more edge loops and and realign some edge flow on the hips and inner thigh areas of my character. So I changed some edge flow and deleted some edge loops on the lower body. In addition I also added in another edge loop on the bum of my character and made it a bit bigger and reshaped some more edge flow behind the bum of my character.

This is the new model of this week. Some alterations can be seen on the new model.

This is my UV for this week's new model. I was going to sculpt my character in Mudbox first before UVing my character but decided to UV first before doing the sculpting so I don't have to UV later. I also had to redo my UV a second time because Frank Pereria gave me some more tips on improving my character and after I made some arrangements to my character the UVs that I had done this week did not work so well for my character's new meshes, so I re-UVed a majority of my character again.
